Program Overview
The Foundations of Healthcare Certificate is only available as a school-to-work Dual Enrollment program to area high school students. In addition to training to become a Certified Nurse Assistant, students will gain exposure to related healthcare career pathways affording them the ability to make informed decisions regarding their academic/career future. Upon completion, students will have coursework that will transfer to other colleges in a variety of Healthcare programs. In addition, students who complete the 13-credit certificate are eligible to apply for certification through the Montana Department of Public Health & Human Services as a Certified Nurse Assistant (CNA).
Objectives
- To provide knowledge of different health careers including roles, responsibilities.
- To provide a supportive environment for students to identify and reflect on their personal skill sets and health career interests.
- To provide students the opportunity to define, learn, and demonstrate the CNA role in various healthcare settings.
Outcomes
The Foundations of Healthcare Certificate curriculum is designed to provide nursing and healthcare related education that enables graduates to:
- Pass the written and skills certification exam through the Department of Health and Human Services.
- Assume employment positions as a CNA in a variety of healthcare settings.
- Demonstrate the ability to integrate theory and skills associated with restorative care in assisted living, long-term and acute care settings.
- Demonstrate a clear commitment to principles of resident/patient rights, confidentiality, infection control, and safety in the delivery of care.
- Demonstrate the ability to plan and prioritize patient basic patient care and develop time management skills.
Assessment
- Successful demonstration of lab and clinical skills
- Successful completion of the Montana Nurse Aide Registry Exam
