Description of Program
In the fall of 2004, Montana Tech began meeting the needs of the State of Montana by offering an Associate of Applied Science of Radiologic Technology. The Radiologic Technology program is approved by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) and Montana Tech is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. When all requirements for the associate of applied science degree are completed, the student will be eligible to take the national certification examination administered by the ARRT.
Radiologic technologists are medical professionals with a primary responsibility to create images of patient’s bodies using medical equipment, helping doctors diagnose and treat diseases and injuries - all while promoting radiation safety and providing quality patient care. Students in this program learn to master the required technology as a radiographer and become vital members of the patient care team, with time spent in both clinical and classroom settings.
Program Acceptance
Admission to Montana Tech does not guarantee acceptance into the Radiologic Technology Program - students are selected for the clinical aspect of the program through a formal competitive selection process. Selection criteria includes a selective GPA from 23 credits of required prerequisite courses, other selection criteria include (not all inclusive) recommended prerequisite courses, an essay, letter of recommendation, job shadow hours and synopsis. A limited number of students are admitted for a fall semester start each year. If the number of qualified applicants exceeds the available clinical assignments, not all qualified applicants will be accepted.
Once accepted to the program most radiology courses outside clinical courses are -blended- or -hybrid- meaning some of the work is performed online and via zoom, with a face-to-face class meeting for labs typically once a week. Program clinical experiences are at assigned clinical sites in the region - and are integrated through four program semesters, clinical hours are fully in-person.
Montana Tech has determined that the Radiologic Technology program meets the educational requirements necessary for the student to seek licensure/certification in the state of Montana.
