M 416 - Groups and Geometry

3 credits (Hrs: 3 Lec.)
This course explores the symbiosis between groups (an algebraic structure) and geometry. The course will explain how groups arise as symmetries of geometric objects and can be better understood by geometric techniques and describe the basics of coarse geometry and how a finitely generated group can be understood by its action on interesting spaces.

Prerequisite(s): M 242  or instructor permission.
