Minimum Credits for a B.S. Degree in Metallurgical & Materials Engineering: 136


*M&ME students must complete 6 credits of humanities and 6 credits of social sciences. See General Education Requirements .

**ECNS 203  satisfies 3 of the 6 credits of the social sciences General Education Requirements  

****Science Electives include BIOB 160 , CHMY 210 , CHMY 311 , CHMY 321 , CHMY 371  and CHMY 401 .

*****Departmental approval is required for all technical electives. PERMISSIBLE TECHNICAL ELECTIVES include: BIOB 160 , EGEN 202 , GEO 204 , EENV 204 , and any course numbered 300 or higher in BCH, BIOB, BIOL, BIOM, CHMY, EELE., EGEN, EMAT, EMET, EMEC, MIN, ENGR, ENVE, GEOE, GEOP, M or M.EC.

Students should consider taking EGEN 202 , EGEN 335  or EGEN 324  as “Engineering Fundamentals” courses.

Students interested in Mineral Processing and Extractive Metallurgy should consider EMET 501, 502, 504, 511, 520, 525, 526, 531, 534, 582, 583 and EMAT 523, 541, 571 & 580.Students interested in Welding, Physical Metallurgy and Materials Engineering should consider EMET 520, EMAT 523, 541, 544, 569, 570, 571, 580, and 584. In addition, EMET 494W-M&ME Seminar can be repeated for 1 technical elective credit.

M&ME students should also consider completing Minors in Chemistry, Math, and Physics as well as those in other engineering programs. Minors available from the M&ME Dept are limited to students seeking outside engineering degrees as described in Academic Programs  Section, subsection Minors.
