EELE 551 - Power Electronics3 credits (Hrs: 3 Lec.) Introduction to solid-state power electronic devices and systems. Topics include characteristics and operation of power semiconductor devices; analysis, modeling, design, and control of power converter topologies (DC-DC, AC-DC, DC-AC, and AC-AC); magnetic component design; switching losses and thermal considerations; and applications in renewable energy systems, electric and hybrid electric vehicles, and industrial power systems. Laboratory experience includes simulation, construction, and testing of basic power converters.
Prerequisite(s): EELE 317 , EELE 321 , and EELE 355 .
