Professional Landman Certificate

The Professional Landman Certificate program is a fifteen (15) credit credit certificate that addresses the growing demand for well-trained and skilled petroleum land managment specialists.  It aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of the petroleum land management field for professionals who would like to enter the industry or who are already in the energy land management field and are seeking formal training to advance their career. 

This certificate is designed for completion with a bachelor’s degree in any discipline.

Objectives

The objectives of the Professional Landman Certificate are to produce graduates who are successful in the oil & gas industries by achieving some of the following:

  1. Continued in-discipline professional employment.
  2. In-discipline career promotion.
  3. Expanding in-discipline career responsibility.
  4. Obtain professional recognition by taking and passing the Registered Landman (RL) exam, the Registered Professional Landman (RPL) exam and/or the Certified Professional Landman (CPL) exam all in accordance with the requirements of the American Association of Professional Landmen.

Outcomes

      Upon completion of this program, the student will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate a comprehension of oil & gas field exploration concepts and activities connecting lease owners and exploration/production companies.
  2. Demonstrate a comprehension of concepts needed to determine ownership and title of surface and subsurface property rights.
  3. Demonstrate a comprehension of governmental oil & gas regulations.
  4. Use their knowledge and skills to obtain employment post-graduation.

Assessment

Outcome 1: At graduation, students earning the Professional Landman Certificate will have the necessary knowledge and skills to demonstrate a comprehension of oil & gas field exploration concepts and activities connecting lease owners and exploration/production companies.

            Performance Criteria: Seventy-five (75) percent of students enrolled in the program will achieve a grade of B or better in BGEN 430 Basic Oil & Gas Law I.

Outcome 2: At graduation, students earning the Professional Landman Certificate will have the necessary knowledge and skills to demonstrate a comprehension of concepts needed to determine ownership and title of surface and subsurface rights.

            Performance Criteria: Seventy-five (75) percent of students enrolled in the program will achieve a grade of B or better in BGEN 432 Basic Property & Probate Law.

Outcome 3: At graduation, students earning the Professional Landman Certificate will have the necessary knowledge and skills to demonstrate a comprehension of governmental oil & gas regulations.

            Performance Criteria: Seventy-five (75) percent of students enrolled in the program will achieve a grade of B or better in BGEN 431 Basic Oil & Gas Law II.

Outcome 4: At graduation, students earning the Professional Landman Certificate will be able to use their knowledge and skills to obtain employment post-graduation.

            Performance Criteria: Seventy-five (75) percent of students enrolled in the program will obtain post graduate employment.
