Montana Tech’s Computational Science Certificate is designed for natural scientists, mathematicians, statisticians, social/behavior scientists, computer scientists, and engineers seeking to use the full power of computer modeling and simulation to advance understanding, experiment, and theory in the broad range of science and engineering fields. Graduates will be knowledgeable of at least one science, mathematics, or engineering field and skilled in computational science and scientific programming. they will be able to understand that science and mathematics, develop analytical or numerical solutions and codes, thereby contributing to important research and applications in health/medicine, environmental science, materials and manufacturing, natural resources, agriculture, and social sciences. The 15-credit certificate consists of a 12-credit core and 3 credits of electives. It can be completed in 1 year or concurrently with a bachelor’s or master’s degree.

M 526 Mathematical Modeling can be substituted for CSCI 577, but another elective must be selected. Courses may be added to the list of approved electives as approved by the department. Courses from other departments, such as GEOP 591 Numerical Computing, may also be substituted as an elective.
