Mission
The mission of the General Studies Program is to provide students who have already earned an Associates degree with a broad-based, quality education in the Humanities and Social Sciences, leading to a Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a strong career focus.
Educational Objectives
The educational objectives of the General Studies Program include the following:
- Graduates will have an appreciation for the Liberal Arts and Sciences.
- Graduates will have a commitment to life-long learning.
- Graduates will have the skills and critical thinking abilities commiserate with other four-year degrees.
Educational Outcomes
The educational outcomes of the General Studies Program include the following:
- Students earning a BAS in General Studies will have the necessary knowledge and skills to obtain employment post graduation.
- Students will demonstrate competency in critical thinking skills.
- Students will demonstrate competency in Writing
- Students will demonstrate competency in Mathematics.
- Students will demonstrate competency in Natural Sciences.
Assessment
The General Studies Program’s assessment process extends through the undergraduate years and beyond graduation, to ensure consistent quality and to facilitate improvements to required curriculum. This assessment process includes a combination of nationally normed standardized examination as well as frequent contact with alumni and alumnae.
