ANTY 467 - Archaeological Field School3 credits (Hrs: 3 Lec.) A summer of archaeological field work at a location away from the University; training in excavation and laboratory methods. The Field School will provide training and experience in archaeological methods and techniques including: identification of pre-historic sites using topography, use of archaeological tools, excavation process, documentation, photography, and analysis of cultural materials and features. Cultural materials include lithic debitage, stone and faunal tools, ceramics and utilized skeletal material, as well as variant types of cooking hearths. This school will be staffed by a local archaeologist with extensive experience in the archaeology of the Northern Great Plains, as well as a Physical Anthropologist with broad experience in Lower and Middle Paleolithic Archaeology, hominin morphology, and faunal skeletal analysis.
