PET 521 - Advanced Drilling3 credits (Hrs: 3 Lec.) This course covers advanced drilling engineering concepts with emphasis on geomechanics, drilling optimization, and operational decision-making. Topics include wellbore stability, directional drilling, drilling dysfunctions and mitigation, mud weight window estimation, and advanced drilling hydraulics using various fluid models. The course also introduces well delivery concepts within operating companies and includes project-based applications of data analytics and coding for drilling performance evaluation and optimization. Students develop the ability to integrate theory, field data, and engineering judgment for efficient and safe drilling operations.
Prerequisite(s): PET 301, PET 303, or Graduate-Level Standing, or Instructor Approval.
