ENRG 520 - Thermodynamics of Energy Systems

3 credits (Hrs: 3 Lec.)
This course provides advanced treatment of thermodynamic principles as applied to modern energy systems. Topics include the first and second laws of thermodynamics, exergy analysis, thermodynamic cycles, and energy conversion processes. Emphasis is placed on evaluating system efficiency, irreversibilities, and sustainability metrics. Students apply thermodynamic analysis to research problems involving conventional and emerging energy technologies. Support design decisions, and inform research in complex, multidisciplinary energy systems.

Prerequisite(s): Admission to the Energy Engineering PhD program or consent of instructor.
