MIN 411 - Advanced Mining Method Selection3 credits This course incorporates previous coursework including mining equipment selection, unit operations of mining, and economic analysis to evaluate and select appropriate mining methods. Includes tradeoff studies, comparing various underground mining methods along with surface and underground tradeoff or transition analysis. Fundamentals of design for each mining methods will also be reviewed along with applications of modern technology where appropriate. Finally, this course will introduce non-technical “modifying factors” that may govern mine sizing or method selection such as environmental, social and governance (ESG) considerations, mine permitting and closure, and employee/public safety.
