EMEC 515 - Impact Dynamics3 credits (Hrs: 3 Lec.) This course explores the dynamics of low-speed impacts across various systems and structures. Topics include collinear, planar, and 3D rigid body impacts, as well as tangential compliance and continuum modeling near contact areas. Students will study wave propagation resulting from impacts, multibody systems interactions, and viscous impact behavior. The course also addresses impacts involving flexible structures and examines transformation propagation in self-organizing systems. Applications include the analysis of sports ball impacts and real-world engineering scenarios. Through theoretical analysis and practical modeling, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of impact mechanics and their implications in mechanical and structural systems.
Prerequisite(s): EGEN 202 & EGEN 305 or instructor approval.
